BRIAN'S HARMONY MARQUIS

Here is what Brian had to say about his Harmony Marquis

I just picked up a marquis from a local music shop. I don't know if I'm going to keep it or not at this point. I did take a shine to it so it will probably stay with me until something else catches my eye.
It seems to be in fine shape though not perfect. Some of the edges are worn and it's got a couple of small dings and scratches here and there. Supposedly it has a case for it hiding in the basement somewhere but I'm not expecting much if it's found. The only thing I know about it is the original owner loved this guitar very much but fell on hard times so he sold it to the shop. The shop owner put it away for approx. 7-8 years expecting the man to come back for it but the man recently passed away. I saw it in the back room with an inch of dust on it and asked if I could bring it home and toy around with it and later called and agreed to buy it.

 Brian

HARMONY MARQUIS IN NEW JERSEY

I received these Harmony Marquis pictures from Sal in New Jersey.  Here is what Sal had to say about his Marquis.

FROM SAL:

I was looking for information on the Guitar I bought while browsing an Antique Shops in Red Bank, NJ.  This one caught my attention. It was marked $175.00 but the shop owner was running a huge sale, so I got it for $100.00 including the original case which still has the neck Strut tool and a printed instruction set on how to adjust it!.
When I got it home and plugged into a VOX Practice amp, I was blown away but the tone and sound of this guitar. A co-worker has an original Les Paul Standard - Gibson  - he played it and was amazed - said it sounded as good or better that his.
Other than the Harmony name on the head stock and that the neck pick up is further away from the neck than any other LP guitar, there are no other markings on it.
It is very heavy, the neck is much fatter than any other guitar I have, and it appears to have all the original electronics etc.
The color of the neck is different than the body, as you can see. I don't know enough about it to say that is original or not but, as far as I can tell, it such a perfect fit and looks like it has never been removed or replaced.
It has a string buzz issue up around the 12th fret high high "e" string and maybe one other place I haven't figured out yet.  It could use a little fret work - they are not flattened or worn and are in good condition. It is a well cared for guitar.
I absolutely love this guitar and I do plan to get some work done on it.
Anyway - I enjoyed reading your webpage and appreciate any comments you can offer.
Thank you,
Sal

BEAUTIFUL UNIQUE HARMONY MARQUIS IN FRANCE

Harmony Marquis - Glenn in France

This has got to be the most beautiful Harmony Marquis I have ever seen and most certainly the most unique one.  It is my opinion that this is a very early Marquis built in Japan because the headstock appears to be the Gibson style open book shape and would predate the famous Gibson lawsuit over this headstock design infringing on their patented headstock.

Here is the email that Glenn sent me with the pictures.  If you have any information on this Marquis please leave a comment.

FROM GLENN IN FRANCE

Hello from France
I was lucky enough find and buy a Harmony Marquis from a friend's pawn shop in Delaware in 1997 (for 110 US $ including the original case).
I have NEVER found another Harmony that resembles this one.  Has very thin multi-layer through neck (looks like maple + mahogany + ebony ?) and what I think are late 60's early 70's Gibson PAF pick ups.
Almost mint condition, extremely nice to play and a real screamer with the Gibson pick-ups. Tremendous variety of sounds from mellow clear jazzy to Angus Young SG crunch.
I have always wondered if it is some sort of one-off Custom Shop sort of deal, I have never seen another like it and there is no serial number anywhere.
What do you think ? Any information you may have is more than welcome.
Enjoy the pictures

Glenn  - Rouen (Normandy) France - originally from Philadephia

HARMONY MARQUIS OWNERS GROUP INFORMATION

Doc Kazoo's Harmony Marquis

Hello everyone and welcome to the Harmony Marquis Owners Group Blog.  For years I have hosted the group on my website collections Harmony Marquis pictures and stories from other Marquis owners.  Regretfully I have fallen somewhat behind in posting new Marquis pictures due to the time involved in updating the Marquis website page and amount of storage space it takes to keep these files on my website.  So I have decided to move the Harmony Marquis Owners Group to my blog.
